Anti-Depression Pacemaker

March 1st, 2005 | Filed under: Biology, Future, Technology | 3 Comments »

A team of scientists in Toronto have been able to implant a small electrode generator by tucking it under the skin and drilling holes through the skull to stimulate nerves associated with depression through the connections between our brain and certain organs. The implant generates a constant pulse of low voltage shocks to alleviate the patient’s otherwise incurable depression. The same localized shock therapy had been used to target regions of the brain associated with tremors of Parkinson’s disease. With this method of ‘curing’ on track to be approved by the FDA, it is frightening to project into the future of western medicine. It reminded me of a short film called ‘More’, by Mark Osborne.

i can only tell you that depression is so terrible that anything that can help it is worth it. even if you have to forget your past. its one thing to experience difficulty, its another to fight off hopelessness. but i do see your point.

The FDA is corrupt. Look at all the money they spend on campaigns to rush things through. They own the presidency and most of the congress and senate WBR LeoP
